Euphaera of the Briar
Born from the corpse of a serpent, Euphaera was cursed from birth to be a social leper. She spent the majority of her childhood studying the magic of flames to rectify the circumstances of her birth, to become holy.
She served until she became wrapped up in demi-god plots whereupon she was accused of deicide and consigned to the Briar, then later executed by a blade of manifest consequence.
Later, she was resurrected by Lord Migema to fight in his endless war against consequence. She vowed then and there to see to the death of every last demi-god in the veilbound lands.
Teo Vandrebrand
Vicar Teo Vandrebrand set off from his quaint home in Vabara on a pilgrimage to visit every Church of Flames scattered across all of the veilbound lands. His pilgrimage saw him delving deeper into the lore of the old world, long since though to abandoned by the current order.
He could not unsee what he had found. The Eternal Flame, the most fundamental crux of his most holy order, did not guide him nor did it guide anyone who aligned themself with the Miracle Queen. It was sealed away centuries ago by the Queen herself, who had perpetuated its image and pushed her own words into its mouth.
His discovery brought unto him consequences most dire. After his death, he was resurrected by Lord Migema. He found kinship with the others raised to the fledgling lord's cause.
He continued his pilgrimage which brought him to the ends of the very earth itself, to the deepest recess of the Earthroot Depths, a place known as the Still-Burning Glade where a fragment of the Everflame yet resided. In darkest pit so devoid of light and life, he succumbed to the madness inherent to it, allowing his body to be engulfed in flame and surrendered to Karazykes, Lord of the Everflame.
Halfbranch Yuna Saba
Yuna the Dragonslayer, as he would come to be known, began life beyond the Veil in a small, nameless town. He was a man of principle and of honor.
Yuna had a close relationship with his older brother, Karo Saba, who was the greatest warrior in their entire clan. Despite their close relationship, Yuna always felt like he was in Karo's shadow.
One day, the great and vile dragon Merycnn and its spawn came and reduced his home town to ash, caught in the crossfire of the war between the Aifumn and the Miracle Queen. Yuna was the only survivor, having hidden under the corpse of his brother to avoid death.
On that day he vowed to become a greater man and to avenge his clan. To that end, he tracked Merycnn's spawn, slaying them in order of strength to build his own.
When he arrived in the veilbound lands, hot on the trail of merycnn itself, he was caught at the border and executed by the Brimstone Knights. He was among those who were risen by Lord Migema.
His principles were tested most when those who he had grown to like, opposed him and became a barrier to his vengeance. Shufen had a duty to protect Merycnn, her family's most loyal dragon, while Yuna had sworn to bring about its demise.
The two fought, Shufen fell, and then before Yuna could finish what he had started, so too did he.
Vura Twiceborn
Vura was born as Meter Seravem, third son of the Seravem family.
Vura's mother, Miraha, had never trusted her. She could not control her and her proclivities for the forbidden magics. So, when Vura was quite young, Miraha replaced Vura's eye with one made of stone and binded it with her own essence.
To distance herself from her Mother, Vura sought the aid of Death. She unleashed the Beast from its gaol and split herself in twain. This cursed act created the Unkindled Sea, a land stained by Death Blight, and severed Vura's connection to her mother by blighting her own body.
Now, her body is shared, Vura and Meter, representing her acceptance of who she was while still choosing to move forward.
Shufen the Nice
Shufen was born in the thunderfields, at the peak of the Jirenizun, bathed in the dull glow of the Tempest Tree, the third and youngest daughter of Dragonlord Ah. She spent the most of her childhood in the paradise city of Aifumn
Shufen fought during the war between the Aifumn and the Miracle Queen. Her people faced extinction, as had the Brumen and the Sioghaxx before them, at the hands of the Miracle Queen. So, she took to the skies to strike a fatal blow to the encroaching army, falling to the earth in the process.
She survived the fall, barely clinging to life, only to be executed by the Miracle Queen herself.
She awoke in a world much, much different than the one she had known. The war had grown cold, neither side admitting defeat, but neither snuffing out the other completely.
Her powers weakened, her spirit broken, she had no choice but to follow Lord Migema and submit her kingdom to him and his.
The Sin Eater
The Sin Eater, born as Mornas, abandoned all semblance of humanity when his village was turned to ash by Lady Karas' Brimstone Knights.
His goal was clear. He would storm the capital, find Karas, and slay her, putting an end to her reign of terror over the Brumen.
He did not make it far before being caught and consigned to the briar.
When he awoke, he was enraged. He committed himself entirely to Lord Migema and used the power that he provided to bring to heel each and every last Brimstone Knight, except for one.
When he came to clash blades with Euphaera, there was no contest. He fell dead at her feet.
Eyan the Manful Lion
Eyan served as the demi-god Ideriz's personal bodyguard, the only Brumen within the empyrean ranks.
During a Nightmare attack, he failed to protect his Lord when it mattered most, and the two were separated forevermore. From then on he swore to never again take up a blade.
After the fall and with Ideriz gone, he lost his purpose. Instead of wallowing in the misery, consigning himself to the rot, he dedicated himself to retaining the knowledge of the old empire.
When Migema returned, Eyan bent the knee to the fledgling lord. Migema used Eyan's encyclopedic knowledge of the old world to uncover burial grounds filled with the Miracle Queen's enemies, brought to heel by consequence blade.
He would go on to guide these once dead who now live, called Veilbreakers, along the path towards Lord Migema and all things he considered righteous.
When Euphaera put Lord Migema squarely in her sights, Eyan picked up his blade once more to protect his lord. Yet still, he could not save the one thing that mattered most to him.
